Museum Event Order Project September 30, 2009

Filed under: linkedin,The Field Museum — jessabra @ 9:45 pm

In the spring, the museum’s old system of creating, scheduling, and requesting services for museum events was taken out of commission.  I was tasked with creating a new system, working with our Web Developer and Director of Special Events and Tourism. Using the Drupal platform, we created the Museum Event Order (MEO) system. MEOs allow users to create work orders for events and simultaneously email requested services to designated departmental contacts. These MEOs can be “cloned” and re-automated for reoccurring events, saving staff time.

Vendor Checkin Implementation September 30, 2009

Filed under: linkedin,The Field Museum — jessabra @ 7:34 pm

Earlier this year, I was the technical liaison for the implementation of Vendor Checkin; the web-based vendor management system utilized by the Special Events and Protection Services Departments at the museum.  Off-site vendors register online at the Vendor Checkin site and are required to have a pre-printed Vendor Checkin badge in order to enter the Field Museum.
Overall, I think this is a well designed product. I particularly appreciate the fact that Vendor Checkin is web-based, meaning that all information entered into it is tracked in real time.

ReServe Interactive Patch September 30, 2009

Filed under: linkedin,The Field Museum — jessabra @ 4:32 am

ReServe Interactive is the software utilized by Special Events for booking space, managing costumers, and generating invoices. There are two types of users that have access to ReServe Interactive at the museum: Event Manager Users and View-only Users. Event Manager Users are Special Events staff that use the ReServe system for event bookings. View-only Users are staff outside of Special Events who have access to ReServe in order to view room availability. Earlier this summer, I was responsible for implementing the patch for the latest version of ReServe. This patch went successfully, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Special Events Department and the IT System and Network Team.

CityPass Scanner Implementation September 30, 2009

Filed under: linkedin,The Field Museum — jessabra @ 4:17 am

I was the technical liaison for the implementation of the CityPass scanner project.  This implementation marks the Field Museum’s move from counting physical CityPass tickets to an automated/computerized way of tracking our CityPass ticket sales and inventory. Thanks to the Guest Relations, Group Sales, and Finance Department staff members who also worked on this implementation.

Recycling E-waste at the Field Museum September 29, 2009

I am in charge of the e-waste recycling program as part of the IT Department and the Greener Field Committee at the Field Museum. We do recycling load-outs every quarter. Each load is about 1000 (960) cubic feet of electronic equipment; meaning we have saved 1000 (960) cubic feet of landfill space every quarter. This also equals about 3900lbs; which is about 2 (1.95) tons of recycled equipment, or alternatively, that’s about 8 tons (or 4 hippos) of equipment recycled each year. (!) Thanks to Com2 for generously donating their services for this initiative.5532_536843519342_22100549_31983172_59094_n

The UA IT Lab at the Field Museum needed some updating. I was happy to oblige. Sustainable furniture is from HON Company, and the Computers are from Dell (Dell Optiplex 160). Here are the results:
